T89 Designs - SSR 'Roughshark'
Coming in 2019, The T89 Single Seater Racecar AKA 'The Roughshark'
An 1100cc class, full aero package, <300Kg full fat race car for competition use. But crucially still designed to be built at home by anyone.
A self-jigging steel spaceframe is fitted with largely “Off the Shelf” suspension components, a robust Bike Engined Car (BEC) drivetrain and simple aluminium or carbon fibre bodywork, all familiar to any kit car builder. This means a car can be built in any garage for ~£5k
Every part of the car is fully designed and considered, ~150 drawings show exactly how to make every single component and assemble them correctly. A complete part list includes details of all 245 components required to build the car with quantities, cost and suppliers all listed.
The highly adaptable chassis allows for the use of a range of donor engines with space for everything up to V4 and >1300cc motorbike engines.
Is the car legal to compete in competitions? The car was designed to the 2015 MSA Blue Book regulations for ROPS and General Construction.
What class can it run in? The Single Seater Locost will run under the Racing Car Classes in Sprints and Hillclimbs, engine choice will denote exactly what class. The car could also be made to Monoposto Monomoto rules and run as a home-build “one off” chassis.
How much will it weigh? The factory development car currently weighs ~330Kg, a range of 310-350kg is likely for most builds dependent on specifications.
How much will it cost to build? The build cost will vary for every build depending on any factors such as engine used and parts sources. We estimate around £5000 for a complete home build using some new and some used parts and a CBR600 F4 donor bike.
What engines can I use? Any 4 Cylinder bike engine (inline or V) should fit in the engine bay. The supplied design is for a Honda CBR600 F4 engine.
Do I have to buy parts from the listed suppliers? No, please feel free to source your own parts. There are enough details in the parts list to contact other suppliers.
I would like to improve my car, can you help? Yes, T89 designs can send out geometry data and dimensions on request.
Can I buy parts from T89 Designs? Yes T89 designs can supply pre-fabricated parts if required including the chassis. These are made by MNR Sportscars specifically for our customers.
Has the car been tested? The development car is fully tested and is currently being used for sprints and developed in competition. With close to 100 laps it has not suffered any design issues.
What if the design changes? All updates from testing have already been integrated into the design. If any changes are required to the design, all updates will be sent free-of –charge to all customers.
